The touching story behind this renovation project warms our hearts. It unfolds as a story of two mothers-in-law brought together by their married children. One of these mothers-in-law lives just a short walk away from her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. When the mother of the daughter-in-law expressed her desire to live in close proximity, a wonderful solution presented itself – the addition of an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) to the neighboring mother-in-law's house. This ingenious solution allowed both mothers to reside near their beloved children and grandchildren.
The transformation began by lifting the original house and digging down the basement that used to include a modest basement laundry room and crawl space. A new foundation was poured for the leveled basement. This allowed the space needed to create a fully functional ADU, complete with two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, and a laundry room.
